Settling In & What to Expect
Day one is deliberately unhurried so everyone can adjust to the time zone and settle into Central Asia comfortably. Since flights into Bishkek arrive at various times throughout the day, we arrange individual airport taxis so you can head straight to the hotel, check in, and unwind on your own schedule.
If you arrive early and feel like exploring, our hotel is in a great walkable area, and we are happy to show you around or suggest a few easy local spots depending on how everyone feels. There is zero rush or set schedule during the day, giving you full flexibility to rest or wander.
Our official group trip kicks off at dinner, where we introduce the local guide team, answer any last-minute questions about the route, and share our first traditional meal together.
Day 2: Bishkek to Chon-Kemin Valley
Drive time: 2 hours 15 minutes total (split into two short 1-hour stretches)
Overnight: Traditional Yurt Camp or Family Guesthouse in Chon-Kemin
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Home-cooked Local Dinner included
We head toward the green foothills of Chon-Kemin Valley. The journey is easy and broken up midway by a stretch-and-explore break at the Burana Tower site, where you can climb to the top of the ancient minaret or wander through the open-air collection of carved stone balbals.
We arrive at our local stay in time for lunch. The afternoon is kept completely open and relaxed. You can settle in, take a quiet walk through the surrounding valley, or join an optional gentle horseback ride through the pine-covered hills with our local hosts. In the evening, we gather for a fresh, home-cooked meal prepared with local ingredients from the valley.
Day 3: Song-Kul Yurt Experience
Drive time: 3 hours total
Overnight: Traditional Yurt Camp, Song-Kul Lake (3,016m)
Meals: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch, and Traditional Yurt Dinner included
Ascending to the Alpine Plateau
After breakfast, we head straight out from the valley and begin our climb into the high mountains toward Song-Kul Lake. As our vehicle winds up through the dramatic Kalmak-Ashu Pass, the mountain views open up until we reach the wide alpine plateau.
We arrive at our high pasture yurt camp by early afternoon, giving you the entire rest of the day to settle in, sip warm tea with our local host family, and watch free-roaming horse herds graze along the lakeshore. You can spend the afternoon walking along the water or simply taking in the peaceful mountain silence. When night falls, the high altitude offers incredible, unobstructed views of the starry night sky right outside your yurt.
Day 4: Song-Kul Lake Full Rest & Exploration Day
Drive time: 0 hours (Zero vehicle travel)
Overnight: Traditional Yurt Camp, Song-Kul Lake (3,016m)

Living at Nomadic Pace
There is no alarm clock today and no luggage to pack. You can sleep in, wake up to fresh morning air over the lake, and enjoy a warm breakfast inside the yurt at your own easy pace. Having two full nights at Song-Kul gives us the rare chance to step out of travel mode and truly settle into the quiet rhythm of high alpine life.
During the day, everything is completely optional. You can join local herders for a gentle horseback ride along the shoreline, walk across the pastures to discover ancient stone petroglyphs, or simply sip hot tea inside the yurt camp while reading or watching livestock graze. As afternoon turns to evening, we share another hot traditional meal together before winding down under the open mountain night skies.
Day 5: Issyk-Kul’s South Shore
Drive time: 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours total
Overnight: Traditional Yurt Camp, Bokonbayevo
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included
Descending to Issyk-Kul’s Rugged South Shore
We say goodbye to the high pastures of Song-Kul and begin our winding mountain descent toward the southern shores of Issyk-Kul Lake. The landscape shifts dramatically as we drop in elevation, trading high alpine meadows for dramatic desert like hills and vast water horizons.
Upon arriving in Bokonbayevo, we meet a local master Berkutchi (eagle hunter) for an exclusive, private demonstration showcasing ancient nomadic falconry traditions. You will learn about the deep bond between the hunter and bird, passed down through generations, and witness the incredible skill of these eagles firsthand. Afterward, we head to our lakeside yurt camp where you can spend a peaceful late afternoon relaxing by the water, dipping into the lake for an evening swim, or watching the sunset over the distant snow capped peaks.
Day 6: Red Canyons, Sacred Cliffs & Waterfall
Drive time: 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes total (short scenic transfers along the coast)
Overnight: Lakeside Yurt Camp or Eco Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included
Geological Wonders Along the Southern Shore
Today is a visually stunning day spent exploring some of the most famous rock formations and evergreen gorges surrounding Issyk-Kul Lake. We start early with a visit to Skazka Canyon, also known as Fairy Tale Canyon, where millennia of wind and water have carved bright red clay and sandstone into labyrinthine ridges and surreal shapes.
After winding through the canyons, we follow the coast into Jeti-Oguz Gorge, a dramatic contrast of dense pine forests and towering red cliffs. We pause to view the iconic Seven Bulls rock formation before setting off on an easy, 45-minute nature walk up to the Maiden's Tears Waterfall. The trail is gentle, rewarding us with fresh mountain air and clear river views. By late afternoon, we head back toward the shoreline to check into our comfortable lakeside camp for a relaxed evening.
Day 7: South Shore to Bishkek
Drive time: 4 hours total (comfortably split into two 2-hour stretches with tea and lunch breaks)
Overnight: Boutique Hotel in Bishkek
Meals: Breakfast and Farewell Group Dinner included
The Journey Back to the Capital
We begin our return journey toward Bishkek, tracing the lakeside highway before winding through the impressive mountain walls of Boom Gorge. To keep the drive relaxed and easy, we stop midway for lunch and coffee along the river route before arriving back in the capital by early afternoon.
Once checked into our city hotel, the afternoon is yours to enjoy at your own pace. You can visit the lively Osh Bazaar to wander through stalls filled with local spices, felt crafts, and dried fruits, or simply relax at a sidewalk cafe in the city center. In the evening, we gather for our final celebratory dinner together, complete with traditional Kyrgyz dishes and live mountain folk music to reflect on our journey across the high passes.
Day 8: Departure from Bishkek
Drive time: 30 to 45 minutes total (Airport transfer only)
Overnight: Hotel included
Meals: Breakfast included
Farewell to Central Asia
Enjoy a relaxed final breakfast at the hotel as our journey comes to a close. We arrange individual airport taxi transfers directly to Manas International Airport (FRU) to match your flight time, ensuring your departure is smooth and stress free regardless of when you fly out.
As you head home, you leave with new friendships, unforgettable memories from the high mountain pastures, and a true taste of nomadic hospitality. While this trip ends here, the mountains will always be waiting for your return. Safe travels, and until next time!
